What a repair includes

We fix what let the water in, not just the hole

A patch over a wet wall fails again within a season. Every repair starts with the cause.

  1. Find the cause

Missing caulking, failed flashing, a window joint, settling, an impact. We check before we open anything.

  2. Open the damaged section

Blistered or cracked material comes off back to sound base coat, or to the wall behind it when water got in.

  3. Rebuild the layers

New insulation board where needed, mesh and base coat, with extra mesh at corners that take knocks.

  4. Seal the joints

Windows, doors and junctions caulked properly, so the wall stays dry.

  5. Match the finish

Texture and colour matched to the existing wall. On older walls we may advise resurfacing the whole elevation instead.

Signs and limits

When a repair is right, and when it is the wrong fix

Cracks

Hairline cracks from settling can be repaired so they allow for more movement. Wide or spreading cracks need the base checked.

Blisters

A blister means water is behind the finish. The area is removed, dried and rebuilt. Painting over it hides the problem for a season.

Holes and impact damage

From a hitch, a ladder or a ball. Repaired at once, since an open wall takes in water. Corners get multiple layers of mesh.

When to resurface instead

Many repairs on one elevation, or a finish at the end of its life: a new layer over the whole wall costs less than chasing each crack.

What decides the price

Five things we look at on the site visit

Every repair is quoted after we see the wall. These are the things that move the number.

  1. How far the water travelled

The opening is often larger than the stain.

  2. Height and access

Ground floor by hand, upper floors from scaffold or a lift.

  3. The system on the wall

Traditional stucco, EIFS or a mix, and whether the base coat is sound.

  4. Finish matching

Some textures and colours blend at the patch; others look better resurfaced to a corner.

  5. Joints and flashing

Sealing done alongside the repair, so we are not back next spring.

Lars and his crew came highly recommended to us through our builder to do the exterior stucco and trim work on our custom home. From the initial consultation, through to the completion of this phase of our build, Lars was always accessible and responsive to our inquiries and needs. He helped us get the right look we were hoping for, came up with great money saving ideas and the product and workmanship was outstanding. His crew truly defines what hard work and attention to detail is all about. The work was done on time, on budget and far exceeded our expectations. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire him again or to recommend his company to anyone who wants the job done right. Note: I have not received, nor have been offered any compensation or discount for this review. I’m just really happy with the work that was done and hope that others can benefit from a similar experience with this company.

Lars and his team did a wonderful stucco job on our home. I feel like we bought a new home when I drive in after work. The team is very professional and clean. It was very easy communicating with Lars, small changes, colours, mouldings, etc... I'm very happy that we picked Stucco&Co among a few that came for an estimate. He wasn't the cheapest but I had a good feeling when I met Lars. I highly recommend their services.

Lars and his team were fantastic to work with. Lars took the time to explain the process, the application being used and all our options. The team did a wonderful job and the stucco looks great. They started the job exactly as promised and finished on time, the price was as quoted with no surprises. We would highly recommend Stucco & Co.

Questions

Stucco repair questions

Can a stucco crack be repaired so it does not come back?

Yes, when the cause is settling. We repair cracks and blisters in a way that allows for more movement, so they do not reappear.

Will the patch show?

On most finishes it blends. On weathered or unusual textures we tell you at the visit and may suggest resurfacing to a corner so the wall reads as one.

How soon should a hole be fixed?

At once. An open wall takes in water, and water behind stucco does the real damage.

Do you repair work done by another company?

Yes. Much of our repair work is on walls other contractors left unfinished or poorly done.

Is the work insured and warrantied?

Yes. Stucco & Co carries $5 million liability insurance and WSIB coverage, and every job comes with a one-year warranty on our work.
